Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Loop of School collects, why, who can see it, and how you control it. We wrote it to be read. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@theloopofschool.com and a person will answer.
1. Who we are
Loop of School, Inc. is a Colorado corporation. Our mailing address is 2519 S Shields Street, Suite 1K #829, Fort Collins, CO 80526, and you can reach us at (970) 272-1153 or hello@theloopofschool.com. We make the Loop of School planning tool (the "Loop"), available at theloopofschool.com and through our apps.
2. Who this policy covers, and a note about children
The Loop is built for parents and guardians. The account holder must be an adult, eighteen or older.
Children do not have accounts, are not asked to provide any information, and cannot sign up. Parents enter information about their children into their own account and control it completely. A child may tap the family's shared screen to mark a lesson done; that tap is recorded in the parent's account as part of the family's record. The ordinary request data described in section 3 belongs to the household's device and account, not to any child. We do not build profiles of children, and we never use information about children for advertising or sell it to anyone.
3. Information we collect
From you, the account holder. Your name, email address, and password (which we store only in hashed form). When you subscribe, our payment processor collects your card details; we never see or store your full card number. We receive limited billing information such as the card brand, the last four digits, the billing postal code, and the charge history.
About your children, entered by you. Each child's first name (or whatever name you choose to use). The subjects, curricula, reading lists, routines, and projects you set up for each child. The record of lessons marked done, which becomes the family's history and the "yearbook" page.
Automatically, when you use the Loop. The kind of device and browser you use, your IP address, the pages you visit within the Loop, and the times you use it. Our servers keep ordinary logs of requests, as nearly all web services do. We use cookies as described in section 9.
From people you invite. If you invite another adult in your household to your family account, they create their own sign-in with their own email address and name. If you refer a friend, we record that the referral came from you, and we tell you when a friend who used your link subscribes.
From our support inbox. If you email us, we keep the email so we can help you and remember what we said.
4. How the family screen works
Most families keep the Loop open on a shared screen in the kitchen or schoolroom. That screen is signed in under the parent's account. Anyone in the household can see what is on it and tap to mark a lesson done. The Loop does not know who tapped; it records only that the lesson was done, in the parent's account. There is no child login, and nothing is stored under a child's own account; a child's name and record live inside the parent's account.
5. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Run the Loop: show your family's loops, keep them in sync across your devices, and keep the family record.
- Bill your subscription and send receipts, renewal reminders, and other messages about your account.
- Answer your questions and fix problems.
- Keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Understand how the Loop is used so we can improve it.
- Produce de-identified statistics, described in section 8.
- Reach you and people like you with our own advertising, including on other platforms and through advertising cookies and pixels on our website. We never use information about your children for this. You can opt out in Settings.
- Send you email newsletters and other marketing email from Loop of School, Inc. and companies under common ownership with it. These may be about the Loop, about homeschooling more generally, or published under another name we or an affiliated company owns; each one will say who sent it. You can opt out of any of them at any time with the unsubscribe link, and we will still send the messages your account needs, like receipts and renewal reminders.
- Comply with the law.
We will not use your information for any purpose that is materially different from these without asking you first.
6. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we never use information about your children for advertising.
We share information only in these cases:
Service providers that help us run the Loop. These companies process information on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to providing their service to us. They include providers of:
- hosting, databases, and backups, in United States data centers
- payment processing
- email delivery
- customer support tools
- usage analytics
- advertising platforms we use to run our own ads
- machine-learning models used to provide features
Where a service provider uses machine-learning models to help us provide a feature, it is not permitted to use your family's information to train its models.
People you choose to share with. Another adult you invite to your family account can see and change everything in it. You control these invitations and can remove that person at any time in Settings.
When the law requires it. We may disclose information if required by a subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Loop of School.
If the company changes hands. If Loop of School, Inc. is sold, merges with another company, undergoes a change of control, or sells all or substantially all of its assets, your information may be held by the company under its new ownership or transferred to the successor, in either case subject to this policy for information collected under it.
Affiliated companies. Companies under common ownership with Loop of School, Inc. may use your contact information only as described in section 5, under this policy. They may not sell it.
With your consent, for anything not listed here.
7. Children's information, in detail
Because the Loop holds information about children, even though it is entered by parents, we designed it to meet the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Children's information is used to provide the Loop to your family and for the de-identified statistics described in section 8. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared except as described in section 6. You, as the parent, can review it, correct it, export it, delete it, and stop its collection by removing a child or deleting your account, all in Settings, as described in section 11. We keep children's information only as long as described in section 10.
8. De-identified statistics
We may use information about how families use the Loop to produce statistics that do not identify anyone, for example how many families use a particular curriculum, or which curriculum families most often chose after finishing another. Before any such statistic is shown to anyone, we remove all identifying information, combine the data across at least 25 families, and release only statistics that cannot reasonably be used to identify a family. We do not attempt to re-identify anyone from them.
9. Cookies and browser signals
We use cookies for signing in, security, remembering your settings, analytics, and advertising as described in section 5. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but the Loop will not work without the sign-in cookie.
Advertising platforms whose cookies or pixels are on our website may collect information about your visits to our site and to other sites over time, under their own privacy policies. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. If a law that applies to us requires us to honor them, we will.
10. How long we keep information
We keep your account and family information while you have an active subscription.
If your account has no active subscription, because your trial ended, you cancelled, you were refunded, or a payment failed, we keep your family record for a limited period so you can come back and pick up where you left off. Information about your children is deleted no later than 12 months after the subscription or trial ended.
When you delete your account or remove a child, that information is deleted promptly, and backup copies are overwritten in the ordinary course. We do not keep children's information indefinitely.
We keep billing, subscription-consent, and other records for as long as tax, accounting, and other laws require, and we may preserve specific records longer when the law requires it, for example during a security incident or a legal proceeding.
11. Your choices
Everything you can do with your family's information, you can do yourself in Settings, without asking us:
- See and export all of it, including the yearbook and a full export of your loops and records.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete a child from your account.
- Delete your account (section 12).
To stop marketing email, use the unsubscribe link in any such email. To opt out of advertising use of your information, use the setting in Settings. If you have a question about your information, write to privacy@theloopofschool.com.
12. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, or from theloopofschool.com/delete-account, which emails you a confirmation link. Deletion is immediate on your side and completed on ours as described in section 10. We keep only the records the law requires us to keep, such as billing and subscription-consent records. Deleting your account ends any prepaid time and any refund window; export your records first if you want them.
Deleting your account also cancels your subscription.
13. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, hashed passwords, access limited to the people who need it to run the Loop, and multi-factor authentication on all administrative accounts. We keep backups so your family record survives a hardware failure.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not promise that ours is. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires and as quickly as we reasonably can.
14. Where your information lives
Your information is stored in the United States. The Loop is intended for families in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, you are sending your information to the United States.
15. Notice to California residents
California's "Shine the Light" law lets California residents ask what personal information a business has shared with third parties for those third parties' direct marketing. We do not share personal information with unrelated third parties for their direct marketing. Companies under common ownership with us may send you our newsletters as described in section 5, and you can opt out of those at any time. California residents may also contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or (800) 952-5210.
16. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, let account holders know. If a change would let us use information we already have in a materially different way, we will ask for your consent before doing so.
